Apples Slices With Date Caramel Sauce + Free FB Community

Last week, I did a post with Stasher Bag. One of the recipes, I developed for the post with them was Apple Slices Date Caramel. This caramel can be used with fruit such as apples or peaches, ice cream, to top a dessert or eaten straight out of the jar. I tested the recipe with almond butter this week. It made a rich sauce that my daughter Ella wanted to eat by the spoonful (her hand is in the picture!)

Ingredients

1/2 cup pitted dates, about 6 Medjool dates

1/2 cup boiling water to soak dates in

2 tbsp.. tahini or your preferred nut or seed butter

1/16 tsp. sea salt

This sauce is delcious on fresh fruit like apples or peaches. I love to top ice cream or desserts. It's also great straight up, by the spoonful!

Instructions

  1. Soak the pitted dates in a bowl (I use a liquid measuring cup) with the boiling water for 10 to 15 minutes. Reserve the liquid (pour back into measuring cup).

  2. Add the dates, tahini, sea salt, and 1/4 cup of the reserved water to a blender or food processor and blend. If it is too thick, add 1 tablespoon of water at a time to loosen it up.

  3. Serve with apple slices.

  4. Store in the refrigerator up to one week.

Chef Carla Notes

  1. Your apple slices will depend on the size of your child. My kids like thin pieces. My son, Massimo, does not like the skin. You can peel it if you wish.
  2. To keep apple slices from turning brown, add 1/4 tsp. to 1/2 tsp. orange or lemon juice to them and toss them in the juice.

I have exciting news! This week, I started a brand new FREE Cook+Chop Community on FB. I will be doing lives, sharing meal prep tips + hosting a free pantry detox challenge September. I hope to see you there!

Below is my recipe for my Date Caramel Sauce.
